The assistant librarian looks mildly disappointed. "Oh, that's a shame. I like when people read. It makes the world a nicer place, you know?"

You and she make idle chitchat for the next hour or so until the rain lets up enough for you to leave. When she returns your coat, it's warm and dry and smells a little like freshly-baked bread.

The assistant librarian gives you a friendly pat on the shoulder and bids farewell as you step back out into the night.
